Meet me in St. Louis

Meet me in St. Louis

St Louis, Missouri

We spent the last couple days in St. Louis, Missouri - The Gateway to the West. Dan and I had some fun crossing the Mississippi River and photographed ourselves between the state lines of Illinois and Missouri. Also, I tried Arby's for the first time in my life. It tasted great, but I don't know if it that's because it was actually good, or if I was just really hungry from back-to-back 80+ mile biking days.

Dan, Maj & The Arch

While in town we checked out local band Jon Hardy and the Public. Dan and I loved it. The music in Bloomington last week nudged me toward the edge, but Jon and his band threw Dan and I over into some sort of existential discovery. People in the places we've visited play music for a different reason than they do in Brooklyn, and we hope that when the webisodes come out for these past few weeks, you'll understand what we mean. No one out here is trying to be new or hip; they're just trying to play the same kind of music that's been done before, yet they have unique voices that breathe new life into old narratives and genres. I know that sounds like a high school term paper, but the impression the music has left us with these past two weeks is hard to describe.

Jon Hardy & The Public

At any rate, on to Columbia to end our week, where we'll be staying at Missouri University - Go Tigers!
